Job Title: Steering System Architect – EPS

Location: Bengaluru


Role

The Steering System Architect for Electronic Power Steering (EPS) will be responsible for defining system-level objectives, aligning with product line technical roadmaps, and developing high-level system requirements and architecture. The role involves optimizing system performance and cost, defining system Bill of Design variants, and ensuring the successful integration of mechanical and electrical components. This position plays a critical role in driving value modeling to create optimized designs and in ensuring system performance and compliance with technical and safety standards.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Define system-level objectives aligned with product line technical roadmaps.
  • Develop high-level system requirements and system architecture to support product development.
  • Define system Bill of Design variants and oversee system cost optimization efforts.
  • Lead system performance evaluations and ensure alignment with design specifications.
  • Perform value modeling to create optimized designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability.


Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure the application of systems thinking to align with organizational objectives.
  • Maintain financial and cost awareness throughout the design process.
  • Provide technical leadership and foster efficient communication among cross-functional teams.
  • Apply AGILE development methodology to ensure rapid iteration and improvement.
  • ASPICE process adherence and ensure compliance in product development for system level activities.
  • Manage configuration (Pure Variants) for product systems.
  • Conduct tradeoff analysis using value modeling techniques to optimize design solutions.
  • Lead the development of functional analysis and system technical architecture, including item definition, boundary diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Oversee the design and participate in the manufacturing processes for electro-mechanical systems (EPS, SBW, I-shaft, manual columns, powerpack, motor topologies, circuit card assemblies, torque and position sensors).
  • Develop and manage functional requirements.
  • Utilize virtual engineering tools (e-Design, Matlab/Simulink) to evaluate system performance.
  • Design electrical architecture, working as both systems architect and systems engineer (SE).
  • Ensure technology alignment for sensors, including handwheel position sensors, torque sensors, motor position sensors, and linear sensors.
  • Oversee heat transfer and thermal modeling for powerpacks, PCBs, motors, etc.
  • Support software architecture design and development.
  • Support mechanical design processes, including ball circuit, ball nut, ball screw, worm gear, direct drives, and pinion-to-rack interfaces.
  • Conduct dynamic systems modeling, analysis, and control as a systems engineer.
  • Support algorithms design and calibration development for system engineering.
  • Support system safety analysis, including compliance with ISO26262 standards.


Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical or a related field.


Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in steering systems, electrical architecture, or related fields.


Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of systems architecture and development processes for steering systems.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems design and integration.
  • Proficiency in value modeling, functional analysis, and systems performance evaluations.
  • Familiarity with ASPICE and ISO26262 standards.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex system requirements.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with virtual engineering tools such as Matlab/Simulink.
  • Familiarity with dynamic systems modeling and control systems.
  • Knowledge of thermal modeling and heat transfer fundamentals in electro-mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience in steering system components and processes, such as ball circuits, direct drives, and powerpacks.
